Rick Stroup, R.I.P.
December 17, 2021
I’m sad to report that Rick Stroup, one of the founders of free-market environmentalism (along with Terry Anderson, John Baden, and a few others), has passed away. Rick was also the coauthor (with James Gwartney) of one of the best principles of economics textbooks published in the past forty years, breaking the Samuelsonian/interventionist/socialist monopoly of that market that lasted from the late ’40s to the early ’80s. I used their Economics: Private and Public Choice in my principles classes for many years. He was a great teacher, a superb writer and researcher, and one of the nicest guys you’d ever meet. Here is a memorial to Rick by Mike Munger and Terry Anderson. Rest in peace, Rick.
Dr. Thomas DiLorenzo [send him mail] is a former professor of economics at Loyola University Maryland and a longtime member of the senior faculty of the Mises Institute. He is the author or co-author of eighteen books including The Real Lincoln; How Capitalism Saved America; Lincoln Unmasked; Hamilton's Curse; Organized Crime: The Unvarnished Truth About Government; The Problem with Socialism; and The Politically-Incorrect Guide to Economics.
