Republic of Absurdistan
February 25, 2004
My friend Ron Smith, who hosts a talk radio show on WBAL in Baltimore and who comes from the Old Right philosophically, mentally inhabits the “Republic of Absurdistan.” His callers compete for such positions in his “administration” as “Minister of NewsSpeak.” One caller made a pitch for this position by composing the “Top Ten Things You’ll Never Hear on Network TV.” Here are my favorites:
9. Being on welfare can suck the will to live out of you.
7. Fur coats are so warm and cozy.
6. There is no better bonding experience between a boy and his father than
hunting.
1. If he was only carrying a loaded gun everything would have been fine.
