One of the major darker outgrowths from the Enlightenment was the development of scientific racism as a rationale for both slavery and imperialism. Millions throughout the world suffered and died horribly at the hands of these virulently racist and brutal regimes. At the beginning of the 20th Century, one of the subjects that fascinated (even obsessed) elites in the United States and Western Europe (particularly Germany, before and during the Third Reich) was the Darwinian pseudo-science of eugenics. The idea was conceived by Charles Darwin’s cousin, Francis Galton. This was the concept that through selective scientific breeding a new superior race of humans could be created, as well as culling the human herd and eliminating those deemed racially unfit or weaker varieties of humankind. (Later these ideas lay at the center of the German National Socialist and Stalinist genocidal regimes). These beliefs went hand in hand with new attempts at coupling or synthesizing criminology, social hygiene, economics, and eugenics by Progressive Era scientists and intellectuals. Some 60,000 Americans were forcibly sterilized in eugenic campaigns organized by American corporate philanthropic organizations such as the Carnegie Institution and the Rockefeller Foundation. The program was then transplanted to Germany where the Rockefeller Foundation and American eugenicists founded and funded Nazi eugenics.
The Bureau of Social Hygiene was incorporated by John D. Rockefeller, Jr. in 1913 as a result of his service on a special grand jury to investigate “white slavery” in New York City in 1910. The purpose of the Bureau was “the study, amelioration, and prevention of those social conditions, crimes, and diseases which adversely affect the well-being of society, with special reference to prostitution and the evils associated therewith.” A grant-making agency that emphasized research and education, the Bureau did not have an endowment but was dependent on financial backing from the Rockefeller Foundation, the Spelman Fund of New York, the New York Foundation, and individuals such as central bankster Paul Warburg and Rockefeller, Jr., the main contributor.
From 1911 to 1928, the Bureau’s main targets were prostitution, vice, narcotics, and police corruption. Between 1928 and 1934, the Bureau shifted its emphasis towards criminology, crime reporting, juvenile delinquency, social hygiene, and narcotics. The Bureau ceased making new appropriations in 1934, and by mid-1937 all previous commitments had been brought to a close. Rockefeller was also an early supporter of eugenicist Margaret Sanger of Planned Parenthood. Since the end of World War II and the infamous legacy of Nazi eugenics and the Holocaust, the term “eugenics” has largely fallen by the wayside and “population control” has filled the vacuum. This elitist notion, sponsored by many of the same corporate foundations as before, and by governmental entities such as the UN, carries on the same satanic dark legacy. But with scientific advances in evolutionary biology and genetic engineering, as well as politically correct identity politics, a new heretical conversation in the spheres of ethics, religion, and law has been ongoing redefining what it means to be human, touching on transgender identity, transhumanism, and chimeras. Are we fast approaching The Island of Doctor Moreau, the nightmarish science fiction novel written by Darwinian secular humanist and eugenicist, the Fabian socialist H. G. Wells?
