Reason Magazine, the Election, and Me

A representative of Reason Magazine asked me to participate in their quadrennial election forum by answering several questions of theirs. I did so. I then requested that they publish exactly what I sent them, and if not, get my approval for any changes they wished to make. They declined to do so. As a result, I decided to share their questions, and my responses, on this blog. Here they are:

1. Who are you voting for, and why?

Since I live in a red state, Republican, one likely to support Trump overwhelmingly, and he won’t need my vote, I’ll support Gary Johnson. If I lived in a purple state where the polls showed Hillary and Donald roughly even, I’d hold my nose and vote for the Republican. For more on this see: Block, Walter E. 2016. “Hillary, Bernie, Donald, Gary: A Libertarian Perspective.” June 4; https://www.lewrockwell.com/2016/06/walter-e-block/hillary-bernie-donald-gary/

2. [If you’re not voting or if you are voting third party:] Which
major-party candidate do you find most alarming, and why?

Hillary. She’s way more of a war monger than Donald. Donald is, relatively speaking, an isolationist, a non-interventionist in the mold of St. Ron Paul.

3. Who did you vote for in 2012?

My man Barack. In 2008 also. Why? He seemed to be less of a war monger than either McCain or Romney. I regard foreign policy as more important than personal liberties and economics, put together. My vote, support, goes to the candidate least likely to get us into World War III. A nuclear conflagration can ruin our entire day.

4. What will you miss most about the Obama years?

What did I like most about the last eight years? Obama kept us out of World War III. Hey, he won the Nobel Peace Prize, didn’t he (smiley face goes here)?
