The Reality of Evil in the World

CNN’s Don Lemon hesitates to call Chicago torture video ‘evil,’ blames bad parenting instead. In one forthright, clear, inane statement, Lemon summarizes 100 years of the banality of evil of secular progressivism and its impotence in facing the ontological reality of humanity cut loose from the ground of being.
This week and next week I am showing my World History high school students a series of documentary biographies on men of world-historic consequence in preparing for our lead up to studying the Second World War: Rasputin, George Seldes, Lenin, Mussolini, Hitler and Stalin. The ones dealing with Mussolini, Hitler, and Stalin specifically focus upon their abuse as children in shaping their later behavior. But would most people specially regard them as “evil” for that reason? No, the fact that they were brutal dictators who murdered millions in WWII would be the primary thing in their minds.
