Re: U.S. Forces in Africa

From TTB who has military connections comes this anecdote:

“I think I told you about my buddy who is with 10th Special Forces Group.”

“Basically his team removed a tribe in Africa because oil was found where they lived.”

“He knew it was big oil that was making the calls, and his team was doing the dirty work.”

“It’s all about money. Always has been, always will be. This stuff happens and it’s real.”

“Stop saying ‘send troops’ if you are not willing to send your own kids. End of story.”

Behind this will surely be a land rights story. For example, in Kenya, which is not at all atypical of many underdeveloped countries, two researchers write

“Kenya has a 50 year history of ongoing land reform. However, with multiple land tenure systems, including customary and statutory systems, past tenure reforms have not resolved inherent land ownership problems. These problems include weak land administration, inaccurate recording of established occupancy rights, landlessness and land disputes, and disempowerment of women and children through denial of their land rights.” Source: Effects of Land Titling on Poverty in Kenya, Joseph Kieyah and Robert Nyaga.
