Re: Secret Police Are Paranoid

Lew, one can just imagine how neocon conspiracists Bill O’Reilly, Michael Ledeen, Ann Coulter, Daniel Pipes, and Sparky the Frozen Fish Stick will spin this fantastic tale. Probably along these torturous lines: As their cloistered 19th century secret police predecessors painstakingly poured over subversive texts of foreigners Bakunin, Nechaev, and Jules Verne, looking for hidden clues sparking revolutionary chaos and utopian insurrection, the contemporary British Special Branch of Scotland Yard minutely deconstructed anarchist mastermind Murray N. Rothbard’s dire warnings against the insidious “Space Cult” lurking within burgeoning American anti-statists. Rothbard was perceived by the Brits as the malicious incarnation of Verne’s Captain Nemo, leading a world-wide assault on ordered government and the sanctity of home and hearth. The British youth sub-culture who imported their subversive Science-Fiction Weltanschauung from the U.S.A. was therefore seen as potential Fifth Columnists and threats to the Social Order. As Marx stood Hegel on his head, so these secret police denizens perceptively stood MNR on his head, concerning the nihilistic Trekkie menace to the British Isles.
