Re: ‘one of the most loathsome people ever to set foot on this continent’

Writes a friend: “Rest assured, I do not share that loathsome sentiment. But I bring it up because the sheer venom it exudes reminds me very much of the attitude of establishment Republicans towards Ron Paul. When Scott Horton interviewed you last month, he expressed bewilderment as to why those whom one would expect to be most supportive of Ron Paul are instead often his bitterest opponents.
“Not too difficult to understand if you consider the gap between their rhetoric and what they actually endorse. As I’ve said before, Ron Paul really does stand for what the Republipietists have only purported to; the reason they vilify and excoriate him, and hurl the nastiest, most vicious epithets his way, is very simple: he shows them up. And one can only expect them to step up their attacks even more as Ron Paul continues to gain ever-increasing exposure to the general public.
“None of this is news to you, I know. But I thought it worth mentioning because I believe that the animosity between paleolibertarians and the Beltway bunch serves as a parallel. In writing of Ron Paul versus the establishment Republicans several months ago, Joe Sobran declared that a real conservative’s worst enemy is a fake conservative, and vice versa. Simply substitute libertarian for conservative, and that should help explain much of the antipathy of the Beltoid and others of his ilk towards you and paleolibertarians in general.”
