I guess it’s hard to relate if you’re not the mother of a young boy in today’s world, Laurence, but to add to your point, a woman whom we both know never allowed her young son to be alone with ANY men (at a mall, movie theater, etc) until he was big enough to watch out and take care of himself. This is not at all unusual behavior on the part of today’s mothers, millions of whom don’t even let their kids stand and wait for the school bus but drive them the two blocks so that they can wait for the bus in the soccermom-minivan.
