Re: Good and Evil

Thanks Bob and Chris for your exchange on the nature of evil. As I have commented on before I believe the greatest evil arises from the combination of power, a utopian vision, and a failure to see one’s fellow humans as one’s moral equals–instead viewing them as lesser beings standing in the way of achieving the leader’s vision of earthly paradise, and who thus must be eliminated or dominated. This combination deludes the state leader into thinking that even the most brutal and cruel actions are ultimately for the greater good. So our modern humanitarian “leaders” commit acts of barbarism that the allegedly tyrannical monarchs of medieval times would never have even dreamed of with a clear conscience.

Satan’s greatest lie is that man can and should use the state to create heaven on earth.
