re: Engineers’ Syndrome
October 24, 2007
Stephan, it’s not just engineers, but a large percentage of business people in general, and even lawyers! Just look at all the entrepreneurs who have made a lot of money, which they figure qualifies them as an instant genius in managing a professional sports franchise. Peter Angelos, majority owner of the Baltimore Orioles, became a billionaire through bogus asbestos litigation. He’s famous for micromanaging the Orioles who, as everyone knows, are perennially one of the worst, if not the worst, team in baseball.
Then there’s Ross Perot . . .
There’s got to be a book in this.
Dr. Thomas DiLorenzo [send him mail] is a former professor of economics at Loyola University Maryland and a longtime member of the senior faculty of the Mises Institute. He is the author or co-author of eighteen books including The Real Lincoln; How Capitalism Saved America; Lincoln Unmasked; Hamilton's Curse; Organized Crime: The Unvarnished Truth About Government; The Problem with Socialism; and The Politically-Incorrect Guide to Economics.
