Subject: Ayn Rand on racism?
Hi Dr. Block!
I’m a huge fan of your speeches and interviews. This morning I read an email exchange where you called Ayn Rand “a bit weak on racism”. Could you briefly explain her position and your opinion of her position? I don’t know much about Rand, but I’m glad you set the record straight with your correspondent. I’m constantly correcting my friends when they say that I’m just some Randian Libertarian… Thanks! JJ
Dear JJ:
Rand condemned all kinds of racism as unwarranted collectivism. Here, I think, are much better views on this subject, very different than hers:
Rockwell, Llewellyn H. Jr. 2014. “What Exactly Is ‘Racism’?” July 2;
https://www.lewrockwell.com/2014/07/lew-rockwell/what-exactly-is-racism/
Vance, Laurence M. 2016. “Is it racist?” August 9;
https://www.lewrockwell.com/2016/08/laurence-m-vance/racist/
Vance, Laurence M. 2016. “Libertarianism and Racism.” August 16;
https://www.lewrockwell.com/2016/08/laurence-m-vance/libertarianism-racism/
She is a bit “weak” on this issue since she did not subscribe to the views of these authors.
