Port Authority 68% Liable for ’93 WTC Attacks

October 27, 2005

Here’s a whopper. According to a New York jury, the Port Authority of NY/NJ is 68% liable for the 1993 World Trade Center attacks, while the terrorists were only 32% liable for which victims will be remunerated in separate various trials. How they came up with this insane calculus will be the subject to law review analysis for years to come.

As nutty as the outcome is, I think the jury is on to something here. The government who forces us to use their “protection” is liable when it when it fails or commits gross negligence in that protection. While I think the jury is not justified in placing liability on the Port Authority in this case, I think it could be justified if it placed liability on the Federal government and its destructive interventions overseas. For both the 1993 bombings and 911, 68% sounds about right. Oh, also remuneration should come from the personal fortunes of those in Congress, every living President, and all living secretaries of State and Defense. The tax payer should rightly be spared.
