Did Schiff and Pelosi converse and decide to accuse Trump of undermining national security, as ridiculous as such a charge is?
Pelosi is on record saying Trump “betrayed his oath of office, our national security and the integrity of our elections.” Schiff is on record saying “This whistleblower has done obviously a cardinal service to the country by exposing wrongdoing of the most serious kind, a breach of the president’s duty to the country that endangers our security.”
They are throwing whatever mud they can think of in the hope that some of it will stick somewhere in the minds of Americans. But Trump undermining national security? That’s a Deep State charge, and one that doesn’t pass even the weakest tests of reality.
Trump has raised military spending. That spending peaked at near $800 billion in 2010. It then fell gradually to the $600 billion level by 2017. Trump halted that decline, and the amount now is $700-$750 billion.
Trump began an open and overt policy of strengthening national security by strengthening economic security or “economic security is national security.” His intent and the economic actions he has taken to achieve that intent are aligned with the aim of increasing national security.
What are Pelosi and Schiff talking about when they claim Trump endangers national security? Pelosi links it to the “integrity of our elections”, but Trump has never compromised electoral processes. In fact, Democrats want to get rid of the Electoral College and Democrats have refused to accept the 2016 election. They are the subversives. Schiff claims that the Trump-Zelensky call indicates a “breach of the president’s duty”. What duty is that? What breach is that? He does not say, and he can’t plausibly say. If he could pinpoint such a breach, he would already have done so. And how does anything in that call endanger our security? How does that call become “wrongdoing of the most serious kind”? There is simply nothing in that call that remotely qualifies, and nothing that supports impeachment. Schiff is nuttier than a fruitcake if he sees such major crimes when they are simply not there.
On the other hand, there is some substance to the opposite charge that it is the Democrats who are undermining national security. They are doing this by challenging a legitimate election. They are dividing the country and the risk is that this division will sour the economy, weaken constitutional processes, weaken constitutional protections, encourage rival states, encourage lawlessness, and encourage violent conflicts within our borders. These sorts of outcomes will weaken security in our beloved country. The ones who are fostering these outcomes are Democrats out for Trump’s scalp when there are no sound reasons for removing him from office.
The least we can do for younger generations is produce a peaceful country to live in, but the Democrats in Congress are disturbing the nation’s peace for no good reason.
