Partners in Propaganda, Too

Our Rulers often prattle about their “public-private partnerships.” Such arrangements are nothing new, though you can understand why Leviathan prefers a euphemism to the term our grandparents used: “fascism.”

The State’s collaborators assist it in more ways than selling it the infrastructure and services to control us for exorbitant amounts of our taxes. They also promote its propaganda, especially the fiction that we live during incredibly dangerous, deadly times from which only omnipotent government can save us.  A friend at one of the Feds’ biggest corporate allies forwarded two quasi-official emails he received this week alone from “a prominent person in our security organization.”

One such email reprinted bilge from an outfit called “Strategic Forecasting, Inc.” that was so slanted and dire it was farcical. Under the headline, “Domestic Terrorism is No Joke,” the article provided exactly that: a tirade about “anti-authoritarian, anarchistic libertarians who had a grudge against the authorities over both left-wing (drug legalization) and right-wing (Second Amendment) issues.” But the author of this nonsense comes by his prejudice and falsehoods honestly:  “he was a special agent with the U.S. State Department for 10 years and was involved in hundreds of terrorism investigations.” Meanwhile, he’s found the perfect perch at Strategic Forecasting, Inc, better known as “Stratfor.” Barron’s described the place as “a private quasi-CIA” whose founder “counts himself a disciple of political thinkers Leo Strauss and Hans Morgenthau. ‘I, like they, believe in the balance of power and the fact that national behavior can be predicted by rational analysis of nation-states following the dictates of their political self-interest,’ he remarks.” No wonder Stratfor’s nutjob condemns “anti-authoritarian, anarchistic libertarians” as bigger threats than totalitarian philosophers and politicians.

By the way, Barron’s also reported, “more than 100,000 subscribers receive … [Stratfor’s] global intelligence update [such as the  “prominent person in our security organization” forwarded to my friend] by e-mail five days a week,” and that was in 2001. No doubt Stratfor should share the credit for turning the home of the brave into a bassinet of squalling babies.

The second email matches the first for laughs, republishing an article from oh-so-accurate-and-reliable Fox News. Really, would any of the neocons at Fox know agitprop if it smacked ’em upside the head? And as if Fox’s scaremongering weren’t enough, the “prominent person in our security organization” prefaced the text with this plea:

Please share with all personnel.

Yeah, because gracious, we wouldn’t want anyone “experiencing” by himself nor reaching his own viewpoints and decisions, would we?
