Where oh where is libertarianism?

David Brooks writes in the NYTimes of March 1, 2016 a column entitled “The movement mentality.” In it he mentions pretty much every school of thought in political economy, except one. He talks of paleoconservatives, neoconservatives, modernists, postmodernists, liberals, realists, neoliberals, communitarians, liberation theologians, Jungians, Freudians, Straussians, deconstructionists, feminists, post-feminists, Marxists, democratic socialists, transcendentalists, existentialists, pragmatists, agrarians, Gnostics, Tortskyites, Leninists, the Frankfurt School, and a few more, but I’m tired of typing all of these. But where oh where is libertarianism? It is nowhere, that is where, at least for David Brooks, scholar of political economic movements. This brings me back to the day, in the early 1960s, when I first became a libertarian, and this philosophy was never mentioned in polite company, such as the major media. I suppose that David Brooks’ knowledge of schools of political economic thought is rather limited. Either that, or, he does not much like our libertarian perspective, and is trying to bury it in the proverbial memory hole. We shall not let him do so!
