Ocasio-Cortez: Demagogue

Ocasio-Cortez is a demagogue. Her appeals are strictly emotional. Any semblance to rational argument is fake. Her appeals make no attempt to find truth and fashion solutions. Persuasion is her game. Her “solutions” call for more government.

Take this appeal in support of the environment: “You want to tell people that their concern and their desire for clean air and clean water is elitist? Tell that to the kids in the South Bronx which are suffering from the highest rates of childhood asthma in the country. Tell that to the families in Flint whose kids, their blood is ascending in lead levels, their brains are damaged for the rest of their lives. Call them elitist. You’re telling them that those kids are trying to get on a plane to Davos? People are dying!”

From a recent story about asthma in the South Bronx, we read

“‘It’s a perfect storm,’ said Dr. Sunit Jariwala, an allergist and asthma specialist at Montefiore Hospital in the Bronx. ‘There is pollution, high pollen concentration, changes in the weather, and then there is susceptible population; the inner city, urban, African-American and Latino population.’ Though environmental factors such as pollution, mold, pests, and dust are big asthma triggers, genetics plays a role, too, explained Dr. Jariwala.

“For reasons not yet completely understood, asthma patients, in general, are more likely to be African-American or Latino. And in the South Bronx, those two ethnicities make up the majority of the population. Across the different South Bronx neighborhoods, percentages of Hispanic residents range between 59 percent in Morrisania and Crotona to 76 percent in Hunts Point and Longwood. The percentage range of black residents is between 22 and 38, depending on the neighborhood.”

Who is to blame for the bad water in Flint, Michigan? By all accounts, city and state government officials. Naturally, the entire affair has many complications.
