What I Have Not Seen . . .

at either the GOP or Democratic conventions are any verbal expressions that might be said to reflect “philosophic principles.” Donald Trump has largely reacted to the destructive insanity of our world, and offered a few suggestions as to what he would do about some of it, but nothing that reflected a coherent set of transcendent beliefs. Bernie Sanders’ advocacy of state socialism provided some hope that some abstract ideas might be brought up to which intelligent debate might be offered. But, alas, his proposals ended up amounting to nothing more than traditional leftist promises of “free” everything, from college tuitions to health care. His supporters, at the convention, were more supportive of his stance than was he, even after it was revealed that the DNC hierarchy had, indeed, conspired [yes, Virginia, there are conspiracies!] to sabotage his campaign. Without any clearly-defined principles to defend, Sanders folded like a cheap accordion and proceeded to embrace the only “ideals” that will emerge from the convention: [1] “we must defeat Donald Trump,” and [2] “it is important to elect the first woman president.” Boobus Democraticus – after being cajoled by the two professional comedians who addressed the convention – will whoop and holler such purposes as the rationalization for their having spent a week or more in Philadelphia!

Sanders mouthed the party mantra about the need to elect Hillary, . . . the woman he had so roundly criticized during the primaries, and who was the beneficiary of the shenanigans of the DNC hierarchy to which he so quickly prostrated himself. At last word, he was being conned into nominating Hillary, in the name of “Democratic party unity.” [I have never understood how or why Sanders was ever considered to be a “Democrat,” given that he has long run for office as an “Independent.” Why did he not run as a third-party candidate?] That he could so easily disappoint his most loyal supporters by embracing Hillary reveals his chameleon-like character. Can you imagine Ron Paul endorsing George W. Bush in the name of “Republican party unity?”

I am told that Bill Clinton will also speak on Hillary’s behalf tonight, and I cannot help but wonder if, in the name of “party unity,” Monica Lewinski will be brought on to second Hillary’s nomination!
