Naturalism? Nah

January 13, 2004

Chuck Johnson writes Burt and Lew:

“I look upon the conferences and seminars you have for all these budding scholars with some jealousy. For those of us who are past our scholarship years – I personally got an advanced degree in beer and pizza – I would like to suggest a long weekend at a decent resort. I will even tell you in advance that any fund raising impulses should be restrained after I play a round of golf, but would be well received at a nice wine tasting. Save the box wines for the statists -they believe in one size fits all!

“I have been living in Colorado Springs for the past several months. Unbridled state support here is so strong that Karl Rove would probably be considered dangerously non-supportive of ‘the war.’ I would instantly block my calendar for the chance to spend some time with people of like mind in a relaxed and informative setting. I would even strongly support an annual event and schedule accordingly.

“I thought about joining you for the meeting with the naturalists, but at my age, truth in advertising is not to be encouraged.”
