“In prison (and I say this from experience) everything outside prison walls is referred to as ‘The Free World.’

“Now it’s a bitter irony that the Covid-19 pandemic has turned the country into a giant prison – or has attempted to – and has turned health authorities into central planners who go so far as to dictate how many occupants can reside in a restaurant. This turns the business model of the restaurant on its head, which is based on how many people the establishment can serve in a 45 minute window. Cutting the businesses’ revenue in half and then expecting it to survive is exactly what you’d expect from a central planning type.

“There was this relatively famous homeless man, Leslie Cochran, in Austin, who once ran for Mayor and made a pretty respectable showing. He was a libertarian and anyone who lived in Austin from 1990 on would tell you about him if you asked. Some ugly, some good. But he had the greatest slogan for freedom I’ve ever heard:

“Our freedom is more important than your ‘good idea.'”
