More on Carter

July 28, 2004

Regarding Jimmy Carter, we should also recall that he also signed legislation that began the deregulation of oil prices, regulations that were put in place by the “conservative” Richard Nixon. Reagan’s very first act as president was to issue an executive order making deregulation immediate, but it was Carter who initiated it all, as well as the deregulation of trucking and airlines.

He was responsible for the harmful “windfall profits tax,” and many other acts of regulatory lunacy in the energy industry, but then again so were the Nixon and Ford administrations. Bill Simon, a genuine conservative, was our first “Energy Czar.”
