Missa in Tempora Belli
May 28, 2008
Writes a friend: “Bless Daniel McAdams for his post about the Górecki Third Symphony. Folk, hippie, heavy metal, and yes, classical: just within the medium of music alone one can express antiwar sentiment (and so much else) in a variety of styles. Here is the Agnus Dei from Papa Haydn’s Missa in Tempore Belli (Mass in Time of War) aka Paukenmesse, conducted by Leonard Bernstein. Note towards the end how conductor, orchestra, and chorus pause, and then a pealing of bells commences.”
