Lies of the Christian Right

A reply from a long-time Baptist youth minister, to my recent blog about why I don’t vote:

“Weak and lame, but you’re certainly entitled to your opinion. You should at least go cast your vote for all the indies and Libs and let you vote be known, heard and counted as a dissenting voice. Your consent? your silence is consent, the reality is there are likely more laws and actions taken by individuals and boards that you didn’t vote for than the named individuals you did, or could’ve or should’ve… I’ll give you four reasons why you should vote (all of which you should respect): 1) Many people live and die never having the right to vote, and some in this country were even denied the right by men, when their own Constitution allowed it. So in solidarity for the oppressed, beaten and denied humans that “couldn’t or can’t vote” of the globe- GO VOTE!, 2) Many have died so you can have (and maintain) such a gov’t permitted right of freedom. So in respect for the sacrifice of others- GO VOTE!, 3) You’re beginning to embrace a fatalistic mentality and no action…when action should be taken is the first mark of a pacifist- GO VOTE!, 4) The day may come in your lifetime when the right to vote doesn’t exist, and then you will not be able to whine about how it was “in the good’ole days” (but whine you will anyway), cause you didn’t vote anyway-GO VOTE!

Life is too short to waste on politics. All Christians are called by God to spread the gospel—not to pledge allegiance to countries that are at best a vapor on the wind , or at worst a cloud of human smoke.

The centralized state is the false god of too many people who identify themselves as Christians. Christians are called to obey God—not men.
