Libertarianism Is About the State. Period.
December 1, 2007
A libertarian can be a Muslim or a Catholic, a vegan or a meat eater, a white or a black, a feminist or a traditionalist, a straight or a gay, a jeans wearer or a three-button sack-suit guy, etc., etc. All that matters, from the standpoint of libertarianism, is your stance on the state. Are you for it or against it?
When Ron Paul ran for president in 1988, he was damned by some libertarians for being too personally conservative and “too middle class.” Such criticisms are unlibertarian.
Yet now, again, we have the same sort of “progressive libertarian” criticisms of Ron. On the other hand, as the comments section shows, few libertarians today believe that cultural leftism = liberty.
