Jack Ambramoff? Bush Never Heard of Him

January 4, 2006

Pete Christensen writes: “Drudge reports ‘Bush Campaign To Give Away Donations‘ received from Abramoff. It’s just another glaring double standard that pervades Club Fed. They seem to think that as long as they give back the bribe money they somehow cleanse themselves of any wrongdoing. The idea that the police state can police itself is absurd as we witness yet again.

“Contrast this with legitimate businesses that have to navigate financial landmines to avoid the hammer of any of the various governmental regulatory departments. A friend of mine is compliance attorney for a large investment firm. They routinely get shaken down by the SEC and settle to the tune of millions for arbitrary ‘enforcement’of new regulations that are enforced retroactively. It was legal then, now it’s not, so pay up for your past transgressions.

“Refusing to cooperate with federal investigators: 5 months (Martha Stewart).
Associating with the wrong circle of friends: 3 years (Jose Padilla).
Living in an oil-rich desert country: 10 years of bombs and bullets (Iraqi citizens).

“Accepting bribes, accessory to fraud, receipt of stolen funds, sanctioned torture, murder of thousands. All in a days work (for the US government).”
