Perhaps the best book I have ever seen for introducing young children to economics (with a focus on the principles of investment that underlie capitalism; and longer-term time preferences) is ANNO’S MAGIC SEEDS.  Written by the Japanese mathematician, Mitsumasa Anno, and containing very nice drawings, it is a wonderful children’s book that I recommend quite highly.
