Infantile Republic

May 10, 2004

Regarding Lew’s blog below on the advocates of the mass murder of civilians by some of those who populate the “FreeRepublic” (a.k.a., Republican party sycophant) web site, the juvenile mentality of these birds was on display in a link that was recently sent to me (and others on a mailing list) by the Rev. Mark Dankoff.

Dankoff had authored an article about some highly regarded, establishment voices who had been expressing doubts about the wisdom of conquering and occupying the Middle East, starting with Iraq. (The front page of today’s Washington Post has a similar article by a Post staff writer).

There were dozens of comments by the “Freepers” below the article, and every one of them was a high schoolish, smartass comment that contained no substance, did not address any of Dankoff’s points, and merely called him names. As Lew says, there are bound to be some good people who participate on this site, but every time I look at it it seems that at least 95 percent of the participants are juvenile-minded name callers. Add to that the ones below who advocate mass murder, and the site seems like some kind of electronic insane asylum.
