A  YouTube video, “How Identity Politics Dismantled American Science,” paints a disturbing picture. The narrator of the video isn’t named, but he has evidently done substantial research on his topic. He says that in the STEM disciplines [science, technology, engineering, and math] universities and government agencies are spending large sums of money to promote “diversity.” Scientific disciplines are required to recruit minorities that are “underrepresented” and, if necessary, course standards are “dumbed down” so that the members of these groups can attain passing grades. Sometimes, grant proposals must include statements on the contribution of the proposed research to “diversity.” In a world of fierce competition in the STEM disciplines, the United States risks being supplanted by nations such as China that stress scientific achievement rather than political correctness
