House Republicans Actually Do Something Good
April 21, 2015
For a change. They voted to repeal the estate tax. The vote on H.R.1105 was 240-179. Seven Democrats joined all but three Republicans in voting to repeal the estate tax. However, I note three things:
Too bad they did not vote to permanently repeal the estate tax when they had an absolute majority in the House, Senate, and White House under George W. Bush. And too bad they didn’t vote to lower taxes on everyone since the estate tax is only expected to be paid by a total of 5,400 estates this year, about 0.2 percent of all deaths in the U.S., according to the Joint Committee on Taxation. And too bad that they didn’t repeal the gift tax at the same time.
