Herman Cain is Trump’s nominee for a vacant seat on the Federal Reserve Board. Cain is way more than fully qualified for this post. Besides his business, communications and social successes, besides his intelligence and know-how, “Cain was chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City Omaha Branch from 1989 to 1991. He was deputy chairman, from 1992 to 1994, and then chairman until 1996, of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City.”
However, here is why he’s being shot down by members of Trump’s party and why he’s receiving calumny from all sides: “Cain is an ardent supporter of the return to the gold standard.” (Here.) Cain’s nomination looks dead in the water at this point. Already, 4 Republican senators are against him. They are Cramer, Gardner, Murkowski and Romney.
Those who most vigorously lambaste Cain, with no good reasons, are those who most clearly identify as enemies of Trump and freedom. Nancy Pelosi sharply bad-mouthed both Stephen Moore and Herman Cain: “With stiff competition, these two appointments to the Fed are the worst, ill-suited appointments that the President could come up with.” You would not think that a person in her position who had a brain in her head and any traces of decency could make such a comment, but she did. Charles Schumer also defamed Moore and Cain: “I don’t see the qualifications of Cain or Moore fitting in with the mission of the Fed, which is to conduct monetary policy and not be political.” The Washington Post labeled Cain “a joke”.
What are these critics all afraid of? Money that is sound enough to slow down the growth of government and government power. They fear the resurrection of gold. They want obedient lackeys at the FED such as they had in Greenspan, Bernanke and Yellen. They fear disobedience.
They fear that Trump is planting seeds to alter the FED fundamentally. They want the FED to be ready to fund their wars and bail out the failures of their socialist schemes. They fear Cain, who wrote “The gold standard is to the moochers and looters in government, what garlic and sunlight are to vampires,” because they are the moochers and looters.
