Happy Hallowe’en! A Belated Scare Story

Before Bill Martin sent me this story, I’d have sworn politicians and bureaucrats are the planet’s most arrogant species. Turns out socialist philosophers are right up there, too. If you want to terrify yourself, read this drivel from two pinheads as to whether “we” should “allow” the family to exist.

The article mentions that the Messrs. Pinhead swiped this notion from the execrable, totalitarian Plato (OK, the author doesn’t call him that: I do)–but their reason for arguing that the State should raise children is even more despicable than his. It seems kids from loving homes enjoy an unfair advantage over everyone else–yes!–, and this has troubled one of the pinheads. He finds it “curious” that “a parent wants to do the best for her child but in the process makes the playing field for others even more lopsided. ‘I got interested in this question because I was interested in equality of opportunity,’ he says.”

He’d be deranged enough had he stopped there. He didn’t. “One way philosophers might think about solving the social justice problem would be by simply abolishing the family.” “Simply.” I love it! Clearly, Dr. Pinhead doesn’t understand the English language any better than he does the human heart, parental love, or the State’s evil.

Told you it’s scary.
