Happy Deification-of-the-State Day

Memorial Day began as an homage to Union Army soldiers such as Gen. Sherman’s looting, plundering, raping, civilian population bombing, house burning “bummers,” as they were called. It was an integral part of the Republican party’s deification of Lincoln, and then the state in general. The larger goal was Lincoln’s Quest for Empire, as explained in a new documentary.
