According to CNN, today is the fourteenth anniversary of the war in Afghanistan, which is still going on, more than three times longer than American participation in The Big One (WW II).  If you look up “anniversary gemstones” on the Web, you will find that the ones for the 14th are either opal or, appropriately, “bloodstone.”
