Grocery List: Milk, Muffins, Masks…
July 22, 2020
Jim Lloyd recounts from Iowa:
This afternoon I went to Fareway for groceries and … when I approached the entrance, there was a new poster outlining the value of masks, how to wear them, whether they are better suited for a toilet paper shortage than virus protection [I made up that last bit, but it doesn’t seem inappropriate].
I didn’t see anyone without a mask for the first couple minutes, but then they began to appear. Another single guy, a mom with two kids, an old couple, and I concluded about 10% of shoppers that afternoon weren’t going for the line. The guy at the meat counter had his mask pulled down over his nose…
I get to a checker, after having received some looks, stares, glares and other emotive eye expressions I would have to ask about to determine a truer understanding…
Pssst, Masked Morons: you can stop w/ the dirty looks. Your diaper destroys their effect, and we don’t know whether you’re glaring or giggling.
As I was walking out, another patron was walking in. Female, around thirty, wearing a shirt with badge patch sewn into the left shoulder, which I believe is Iowa Department Of Corrections…and no mask. So those looks, glares, stares and whatnot could now be focused on a public employee involved in the legal system in some fashion wandering around the store. And since the medium-security prison in this little burg has half of the coronavirus cases for the county, I couldn’t help but smile all the way home.
Jim signed his report, “Keep smiling.” I’m not only smiling, I’m laughing—and all at Our Rulers’ expense!
