Good News And Bad News

May 24, 2017

I have good news and bad news. The bad news is: Judging from history, there will be more terrorist attacks, they’ll go on for decades to come, and there’s not a lot you can do about it as John Q. Citizen. Your government has conscripted you into a shadow war it began with non-state entities in 1990. Like they conscripted you into the Cold War in 1946. Of course you weren’t asked! But, hey, from fallout shelters to color-coded “terror alerts”, it’s one and the same.

The good news is: You’re far more likely to be killed in some natural disaster or a car accident. I know that brings scarce comfort to people who are weighing the benefits of being swept away by a flash flood versus a tractor-trailer piloted by a terrorist into a crowd, but there it is. Be that as it may, at least the government has not yet discovered a good method to provoke the weather into attacking us. The weather just says, “Meh, I guess I’ll birth a few tornados today…”

On the other hand, I predict soon they’ll be adding terrorism threat status alerts to the news along with traffic and weather.
