Going Completely Off the Deep End

In the last few days, the anti-Trump rhetoric has actually gotten more extreme. The statements being made by the anti-Trump forces are so wild, so exaggerated, so unsupported by either reason or evidence, and so divorced from reality that their progenitors seem to be completely taken over by the most incredible imaginings and predictions.

Maxine Waters writes

“Revelation by former WH officials proves what we’ve known all along: Trump is #PutinsPuppet. Trump repeated Putin’s talking point that Ukraine, not Russia, interfered in the ‘16 election. Mark my words. If the Senate doesn’t remove him, Trump will invite Putin to the WH next yr.”

The so-called “revelation” published in the Washington Post is more of the same Deep State grousing about Trump NOT being their puppet, because he wants to deal with Putin other than through nuclear war threats and other than as an enemy. The embedded depth of antagonism toward Russia coming out of lower levels of government from a variety of unknown and unelected assistants, deputy chiefs, assistants to deputies, under-secretaries, deputy under-secretaries, and assistants to deputy undersecretaries, is simply astonishing. They are like a giant ship that’s unresponsive to a change in the rudder, and worse yet, insists on steering directly into an oncoming vessel. Maxine should know better than to rely on such people, but she’s using their opinions to make her crazy evidence-free accusation because she really does think that Trump is Putin’s puppet.

If Trump did invite Putin to the White House as part of a deal, why would this necessarily be bad? JFK negotiated with Khrushchev. FDR dealt with Stalin. Nixon visited Brezhnev in Moscow in 1971, and Brezhnev met Nixon in the White House in 1973. Every U.S. president has dealt with Russia’s leaders, and why not? Why does Maxine stir up this unreasonable hatred and suspicion of Trump? She has many like-minded people similarly stirring up trouble with their crazy accusations and fears.

Maxine was not enough by herself to prompt this blog. Robert De Niro’s obscene comments were not enough to do it either. After all, as Anthony Hopkins sagely observed “Actors are pretty stupid. My opinion isn’t worth anything” An article in Salon by Lucian K. Truscott IV is what did it. I now discover that Truscott has been a man of dubious moral character, but what he says stands or falls on its own merits or demerits, not on his endorsement.

His view is that Trump stole one election and is out to steal another one. This is crazy. Not even a long investigation could find any support whatsoever for this inane charge. This charge has been made by Democrats from day 1. It’s outrageous now and it has been outrageous since it was first aired, but it serves the purpose of reinforcing in some quarters the feeling, based on no rational considerations, that Trump is a bad actor who must be removed. It is a miracle that so far no nut who has absorbed this nonsense has made an attempt on Trump’s life. The Democrats have raked more muck than anything in memory.

Salon came up with this article in Google News, which shows how biased Google has become, which is another story. Truscott writes

“He’s going to call Putin and promise to lift the sanctions if he chips in to get him re-elected. He’ll call Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the president of Turkey. He’ll talk to President Andrej Duda of Poland. He’ll reach out for help from every wannabe Mussolini from South America to Singapore. And he’ll get it. They’ll find ways to slip him money under the table. They’ll turn loose hit squads of trolls to infect American social media with campaign propaganda.”

No evidence of past crimes can be found, including in the impeachment. Trump has every right to seek information about Biden for possible crimes committed when he was not running for president but was vice-president under Obama. Biden can’t get a free pass on his past crimes by running for president now. A criminal doesn’t avoid investigation and prosecution by running for office.

There being no evidence, Truscott runs wild with imagined crimes. He envisions a determined effort by Trump to solicit money from foreign leaders. This is crazy. What sane person or politician would open up himself to extortion and blackmail by illegally soliciting funds like this? Does Trump need the money when his party is building a huge war chest? Does he need it when he’s favored to beat Biden by a significant margin? What evidence is there that trolls pushed the voting in his favor in 2016? What we know for a fact is that the big social media and search companies are systematically expunging and censoring conservative voices and there are studies suggesting that the impacts that Facebook, Twitter, Google and YouTube may have had and will soon have again swamps any impact that Russian trolls had.

Truscott next charges racism: “He’s going to put the full weight of his Department of Justice behind efforts to suppress the votes of poor people, young people, blacks, Latinos, women, the LGBTQ community — in fact anyone likely to vote Democratic. He’ll call for ‘investigations’ of every Democratic presidential candidate who’s going up in the polls and announce he’s got ‘dirt’ on every one of them.”

If Trump’s DOJ does seek to remove voters from the rolls who are dead and buried, is this supposed to be bad? The Democrats under Obama have done much to maximize their votes by gaming the system with drive-by voting, mail-in voting, and voting by anyone with a pulse. Is it any wonder that Republicans may counter these moves? Like true bullies, Democrats shout foul and unfair when they’re counterpunched; they expect their Republican opponents to shut up, sit still and allow themselves to be punched and beaten up.

“Salon is an American news and opinion website, created by David Talbot in 1995. It publishes articles on U.S. politics, culture, and current events and has a politically progressive, liberal editorial stance.”

There is no getting around the fact that Democrats launched a campaign to destroy Trump during the election year 2016. Obama participated at that time from a distance, but the distance narrowed considerably after the election. A vilification campaign ensued on the part of Democrats and has never stopped for a moment. It’s intensifying even now as we enter a new election year. Facts and realities make no difference in this campaign. Every day, some other Democrat makes some outrageous charge. As the Barr-Durham process goes into higher gear, more and more charges will be made that Trump’s Department of Justice is biased and that Barr is a puppet. They are doing nothing more than a job that has to be done to uncover the crimes committed in order to block Trump from office and prevent him from achieving his program after he was elected. Facts and realities are going to have their days in court.
