Dana Perino lauded Michelle Obama’s convention speech. Perino said of Obama “When you talk about authenticity, she has it in spades.”
Perino didn’t seem to know that “spade” is “A derogatory term for an African American, more commonly used in the post-Civil War era than today.” But still in use and the subject of essays about racism.
Has anyone on the political correctness bandwagon noticed or criticized this? So far, nothing is coming up on search engines. Maybe it’s too soon. Maybe people don’t know their slang.
Yet, let’s suppose that Donald Trump had said this. Can’t you just hear the chorus shouting “Racist! Racist!” What would Maxine Waters be saying? But since Perino’s remarks favor the former First Lady, it is unlikely that the leftist language police will say a word, even though they may be thinking something quite different about it.
