Casino industry and other retail/service/hospitality workers will need money more than ever, so the shop may well be a lifeline for some. As Lew points out, pawn shops lend money without increasing the money supply. They also have the closest ear to the ground regarding day to day precious metals prices– they create the true, localized “spot” price. Plus they make firearms available during these uneasy times.
