Dueling Rallies in Lake Jackson

Today, there were two political rallies at the Civic Center in Lake Jackson, Texas–one held by Ron Paul’s opponent for congress, neocon Chris Peden, and one held by Ron. Peden had about 50 supporters. Meanwhile, a plane from the Ron Paul Air Force towed a banner; Ron Paul buses thronged the parking lot. People wore every sort of Revolutionary attire, and giant banners lined the roads to the center. (The authorities said they were against the rules; a Ron supporter said he’s pay the fines.) Ron’s room was standing-room-only with more than 1500 cheering, stomping supporters, and there were about 500 in a large outdoor area. Ron talked about getting out of the war in Iraq, getting rid of the income tax, and stopping the Federal Reserve from destroying the dollar. Then he gave another talk to the people outside. Peden claimed Ron’s positions equate to “Blame America First,” “America” being the federal government in the neoon worldview. 40-1 for Ron. Not a bad start to his congressional primary campaign.
