Don’t Cheer the GOP Just Yet
September 16, 2015
The Republican-controlled Congress did not reauthorize the Export-Import Bank. GE now says that it may move about 500 jobs overseas because of this. But don’t cheer the GOP just yet. Republicans did a good thing (for once), but I question their motives. Did they kill the bank because Obama wanted it reauthorized? Would Republicans have killed the bank if a Republican was president and said he wanted the bank to be reauthorized? Of course they wouldn’t have. Just look back when Bush was the president. Republicans controlled the Congress for over four years during Bush’s presidency. Why did they not kill the bank then? Don’t be surprised if Republicans bring back the bank as part of some budget deal with the president.
