Death by Virtue Signaling

May 25, 2022

All government “officials” are guarded by armed men and women, as are all government judges.  All government buildings are guarded by armed men and women.  Millions of Americans take responsibility for their own safety by owning firearms.  Corporations employ thousands of armed security guards, as do many private communities.  But the left-wing feminists who control all of the teachers’ unions, and consequently almost all of the “public” schools, choose to virtue signal by posting large signs around their “public” schools declaring them to be “Gun-Free Zones.”  (I used to live near the Montogomery County, Maryland line that was demarcated with a sign ludicrously declaring the entire drug-gang invested county to be a “Drug Free Zone”).  This of course convinces every murderous lunatic madman that that is exactly where he wants to go on a sitting-duck shooting spree.  (I once asked a Loyola University Maryland faculty colleague what he learned from the consultant the university hired to educate faculty and staff about how to protect themselves should a shooter appear on campus.  The most memorable thing, he said, was that the consultant reminded everyone that “a pen can be a weapon”).  Not a gun but a pen, or a pencil, or a stapler, or a big book . . .  Ah, the diseased, pea-sized brain of the typical American university bureaucrat.
