Celebrating “The New Socialism”

That’s the purpose of today, “Earth Day” 2014, as Jane Shaw explained some twenty years ago. She quotes the socialist writer Robert Heilbroner, who admitted in a 1990 New Yorker article that “Mises was right” about socialism. But let’s not give up, Heilbroner advised his fellow socialist central planning enthusiasts. Socialism could be resurrected, he said, under the deceitful guise of “environmentalism” and “saving the planet.”
Those people who go out and plant a tree today are not environmentalists but conservationists. The former are properly labeled “watermelons” — green on the outside and red on the inside.
