Beware of Thanking Veterans for Their Service
July 2, 2016
You may not want to hear what their service consisted of. A veteran and LRC reader, M.B., writes: “I don’t showboat my veteran status to anyone. I am a veteran of peacetime and if anyone dares thank me for my service, I thank them for sending me around the world to get shitfaced and have a great time on their dollar. Funny that I’m doing the same thing when I get a free meal from these suckers on military appreciation day!”
Laurence M. Vance [send him mail] writes from central Florida. He is the author of The Free Society; War, Christianity, and the State: Essays on the Follies of Christian Militarism; War, Empire, and the Military: Essays on the Follies of War and U.S. Foreign Policy; King James, His Bible, and Its Translators, and many other books. His newest book is The U.S. Proxy War in Ukraine.
