Berserkly Berkeley
February 2, 2017
As folks know, I’m not a Trump supporter. But when he says he may yank funding for Berkeley over violent protests there, I say that’s fine by me. Let me just spell it out for the protestors:
First, you are there to get an education. That’s why you’re there. There are people who joined the army to get money for college and are now dead. Because they got shipped off to some futile war in Iraq and Afghanistan. So, you know what? Show some respect for that and the fact that your parents paid for you to get an education. And you didn’t have to risk your lives to get it. Provoking the police notwithstanding.
Second, violence is not a solution. You demonstrate Trump is wrong with violence? How about the fact those cops you’re throwing rocks at are just there to do their jobs? Think they want to be out there watching an organized temper tantrum instead of home with their families? When you start using violence, your cause has just lost any credibility it may have had. Violence leads to violence. Which you would know if you actually READ the books you’ve all claimed to have read. There are lots of allegedly well-read ignorant people out there, as we can see. Show me where the Buddha advocated violence, since so many claim to be following that faith over there. Don’t BS me. I’ve read the sutras.
Third and last, hit the books, whiz kids. Guess what? The education isn’t taking. Education is supposed to banish ignorance, not increase it. But you have turned what’s supposed to be an institution of higher learning into a bastion of violent ignorance. You need to sit down quickly and crack those books open and start studying or ask for your money back. Because somewhere down the line, the intelligence is not taking. It’s almost like the body rejecting a donor organ: Your brains are rejecting wisdom. Or your professors are as ignorant as you are and teach violence to you. I don’t know. But I do know that violence is not a solution. Put down the rocks. Pick up the books.
