Someone upset about my recent post on Toys for Tots sent me the following picture and story about a benevolent soldier helping a baby girl in Iraq who was born blind. First Lt. Jason Hickman “spearheaded a campaign, raising over $5,000 for her surgery through donations from Soldiers of the 150th Armored Reconnaissance Squadron, 30th Heavy Brigade Combat Team.”
Obviously, this picture and story are supposed to counter the negative things I have said about the U.S. military. While I applaud the actions of Lt. Hickman and his fellow soldiers, I’m afraid it doesn’t counter anything. The U.S. military unjustly invaded and still occupies Iraq. This has directly and indirectly resulted in the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Iraqis. It doesn’t matter how many Iraqi children are helped by the U.S. military. There is nothing these benevolent soldiers can do to make up for what the U.S. military has done to Iraq.
Update: The “someone” is understandably upset again because of this post. His response? Call me names that I can’t print here and ridicule me for having a “juno” e-mail address. What an embarrassment to the pro-war cause.
