Behind The Curtain

For well over a decade I have stressed at LRC the importance of power elite analysis. An understanding of power elite analysis is the “litmus test” separating real libertarians from alternative lifestyle dilettantes dabbling in free market theory. Sometimes labeled “libertarian class theory” or “Establishment Studies,” this examination of causal relationships regarding the nature and scope of political power, who has it and how it is exercised, is crucial to understanding the nexus between the public state, the deep state, and organized crime. There is a striking similarity between this analysis and what researcher Peter Dale Scott calls “Deep Politics,” the critical examination of the sub-rosa reality behind surface events, an attempt to unmask the true face of power, exposing the elite social, economic, and financial groups and individuals who benefit from the exercise of State coercion. I therefore want to call to the attention of LRC readers the article below.

Jane Mayer, a reporter for The New Yorker who specializes in intricately detailed labyrinthine hit pieces on the little known strategic political operatives and clandestine funding of the plutocratic right in American politics has scored another direct assault, “The Reclusive Hedge-Fund Tycoon Beyond The Trump Presidency: How Robert Mercer exploited America’s populist insurgency.”  She is best known for her drive-by attacks on the Koch Brothers. Prior to her initial New Yorker hit piece, billionaires Charles and David Koch were barely known outside of  the marginalia of obscure libertarian circles. She propelled them to the elite status of one of the principal on-going objects of left-wing hate, demonization and vilification (to which the Kochs responded). This wife of a Washington editor of The New York Times once again pulls no punches in striking brutal body blows at the people behind the curtain of the insurgent 2016 Trump presidential campaign. She names names and takes no prisoners. This powerful piece will set the tone and provide the deadly intellectual ammunition for attacks on Donald Trump and his closest circle of consiglieres, strategists, and intimate advisors over the next several years.
