Baltimore Comes Up Short, Runner Up Again

July 2, 2023

Although two people were murdered and twenty-eight injured in the latest mass shooting in gun-controlled Baltimore, even more severely gun-controlled Chicago once again took the weekend mass-murder trophy with three killed and thirty-one injured.

I was always amused and got a chuckle, even on snowy January mornings, when I taught at Loyola University in Baltimore and walked past the benches on campus that had the logo, “Baltimore: The Best City in America.” This may have been part of an old city government campaign where they had “Believe!” on the sides of all the city buses, on bumper stickers, etc., in the color of the “African flag.”  An enterprising entrepreneur had alternative bumper stickers made in the same colors appearing all over town saying “Behave!”
