Atheists in the Military

September 11, 2014

Regarding the atheist in Air Force airman who is being denied reenlistment unless he says in his oath, “so help me God,” I have two comments. But first I note that Bryan Fischer, director of issues analysis for the American Family Association (someone I wrote about in 2011 in “A Christian Warmonger on Steroids“), is very upset with this airman. He says that no atheist should be permitted to serve in the U.S. military. And now for my comments.

1. Why do Christians care if atheists join the military? Christians should have nothing to do with the U.S. military. And they should be upset that the government is using the holy name of God in its oath.

2. Why do atheists have more scruples than Christians? This airman is standing by his principles. Christians who bomb, maim, and kill for the state are rejecting theirs, if they ever had any to begin with.
