Another Template For Protests When Retailers Require Diapers

December 11, 2020

Sam Picasso—no relation to Pablo, I’m sure, despite his interest in paint—wrote a manager when a favorite store changed its policies on masks:

Boffa’s

33 Gerard Street, Suite 204

Huntington, NY 11743

Attn: Safety Policy Czar

Good Day,

I have been a customer of Boffa’s in various locations for at least twenty years, regularly purchasing Benjamin Moore paints and miscellaneous supplies. Yesterday I entered one of your stores and was immediately told that I needed a mask. No other customers were present.

I asked what for?

The clerk replied that it was company policy.

I asked for whose protection was it intended?

He replied the employees’.

“Really? I asked. “You have exposure to a thousand gallons of carcinogenic compounds in your store,  no virus could live in that.”

We laughed about that and then the conversation became more serious. It was agreed by all of us that none of these so-called safety procedures were of any use, and that this entire mask business is one of control. The icing on the cake was the ludicrous announcement that currency must be sanitized each day after closing. At that point my mask came off and went back into my pocket.

My final statement to them was an apology with regrets that they had to work there under those uncomfortable conditions, but that I had a choice of where I could purchase painting supplies. There is a William Sherman store within a 5-minute walk from my place of employment. They will be seeing more of me. Boffa’s will not.

I urge you to cease blind abeyance to irrational and arbitrary decisions handed down from power-grabbing government officials. That we can now eat in a restaurant without a mask, yet cannot buy paint thinner without one, is totally asinine and without logic.

We as normal citizens and taxpayers must take charge of our own affairs, or the noose around our necks will continue to be tightened.

Regards,

Sam Picasso
