Another Professor Suspended for Opposing Wokeness, Fighting Back!

I’m honored to say that I know the Rev. Dr. Gregory Schulz, and count him as a friend and colleague.

I had the privilege to be assigned to the same cabin last year at a retreat at which he was the presenter and I was the liturgist.  He is a soft-spoken, compassionate, mild-mannered, highly-respected philosophy professor who was ordained nearly forty years ago.  He blew the whistle on the “wokeness” at his Concordia University – Wisconsin, which is part of the university system owned by my church body, the conservative Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod.

For doing so, he was suspended, ordered not to return to campus, and his email address was shut down.  He was accused of behavior unbecoming a Christian, and was ordered to “recant” (quite the irony for a Lutheran pastor and professor).  He had to find out why his email had stopped working from a colleague.  He was also ordered not to have any contact with his students, some of which attend the same church where he is the occasional preacher.  He is arguing that he was denied the due process guaranteed by his contract, and the legal institute that has taken his case agrees.

The Federalist has a helpful article here.  A petition to reinstate him is up to over 5,000 signatures.  He is being represented pro-bono by the Wisconsin Institute for Law and Liberty (WILL).  You can support him and WILL by donating and/or purchasing this tee shirt with the Latin expression “nisi per Verbum” (“except by the Word”), a line that Professor Schulz refers to often.  In fact, here is his paper by that name that addresses the dangers of Postmodernism.

I would ask you to please share this article whether you are a Christian or not.  Academic freedom and the very core values of liberty itself are at stake.
